The play ‘PATH OF TRUTH’ based on Gandhiji’s Satyagrahs in Champaran. Champaran is a district which comes under the state of Bihar. In early twentieth century peasants of Champaran were oppressed by the indigo planters . Life of those peasants became very precarious. In that time Gandhiji led those peasents to achieve their justice and freedom, which gave birth to first popular satyagraha started by Mahatma Gandhi in India. The Champaran Satyagraha gave direction to India’s freedom struggle.
The play ‘PATH OF TRUTH’ starts as a scene where two children of a peasant family preparing their studies and reading history of peasant movement of Champaran. Suddenly and surprisingly Mahatma Gandhiji appears in front of them and tells them about the Champaran Satyagraha. Gandhiji here now becomes a narrator. One local peasant leader Rajkumar Shukla from Champaran meets with Gandhiji and inform him about the tremendous oppressed situation of peasants in Champaran. He also invites Gandhiji to visit Champaran. Gandhiji arrives Champaran and leads the peasants to start non-violence protest against indigo planters. In the mean time the district magistrate of Champaran oders Gandhiji to leave the district. Gandhiji refuses and persists. He decides to commit Satyagraha. Gandhiji starts to visit villages of Champaran district with Rajkumar Shukla and others to investigate the situation in detail and stands with the peasants. As a result of this movement Champaran Agragarian committee constructed by the government and offers Gandhiji to seat in it. Gandhiji returns from Champaran.
