About Director

Sudip Gupta has a knack of telling tales in a non-conventional manner and presenting the audience with hitherto untold messages by the medium of puppets. Starting his puppetry career in 1983, Sudip has been conceptualising, scripting, designing and directing all his plays from 1990, when he established the DOLLS THEATRE. He also earned a fellowship from Ministry of Culture in 1989-91. Master works like TAMING OF THE WILD, PADMAGATHA, SHATRANJ KI  KHILADI, NAK KATA RAJA, SAHEB BAGANER SUNDARI, are some works by the puppeteer. His vision can be understood when one sees his works like TAMING OF THE WILD, a musical composition delivered expertly only by using lights and puppet manipulations, or, PADMAGATHA, where the natural beauty and characters of the epic of Shakuntala have been used to give a environmental care and pollution message. Experimenting with new frames on stage, using the puppet as a medium of modern day communicator and bringing perfect synchrony between live performances and puppets on stage are some fortes Sudip is continually growing in.
